SERVER-OTHER Multiple products UNIX platform backslash directory traversal attempt

Summary

Directory traversal vulnerability in Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat 5.x before 5.5.22 and 6.x before 6.0.10, when using certain proxy modules (modproxy, modrewrite, mod_jk), allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) sequence with combinations of (1) "/" (slash), (2) "\" (backslash), and (3) URL-encoded backslash (%5C) characters in the URL, which are valid separators in Tomcat but not in Apache.

Detailed information

CVE-2007-0450: Directory traversal vulnerability in Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat 5.x before 5.5.22 and 6.x before 6.0.10, when using certain proxy modules (modproxy, modrewrite, mod_jk), allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) sequence with combinations of (1) "/" (slash), (2) "\" (backslash), and (3) URL-encoded backslash (%5C) characters in the URL, which are valid separators in Tomcat but not in Apache.

CVE-2014-0130: Directory traversal vulnerability in actionpack/lib/abstract_controller/base.rb in the implicit-render implementation in Ruby on Rails before 3.2.18, 4.0.x before 4.0.5, and 4.1.x before 4.1.1, when certain route globbing configurations are enabled, allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a crafted request.

CVE-2017-10974: Yaws 1.91 allows Unauthenticated Remote File Disclosure via HTTP Directory Traversal with /%5C../ to port 8080. NOTE: this CVE is only about use of an initial /%5C sequence to defeat traversal protection mechanisms; the initial /%5C sequence was apparently not discussed in earlier research on this product.
