It is difficult to find information regarding Snort implementations in a Windows environment. Would SOURCEfire consider hosting a forum for Windows users to discuss Snort issues? |

This post really need to be in a seperate thread. You can post in http://www.snort.org/reg-bin/forums.cgi?forum_id=101.
However, to answer your question, you can do:
# tar xvf filename.tar
and that will untar your .tar file. |

there is one site from which u can get information about snort installation in windows inveronment, not only snort but also acid, base,mysql,apache.
but as i believe ...windows cant take a place of linux server.. only linux is best server operating system.... try it for fun.... http://www.winsnort.com for step by step installation guide and other software links |
