How can i work my snort properly on my Windows machine?

Posted by tyfn on March 12, 2005 08:44:23

i have installed the win32 ver. of snort into my computer but it doesn't work now. I located it just under my c drive. i am just clicking on the exe icon but it opens a command window and says "##### process entrance point couldn't be found in the dynamic connection library." Please help me how can i configure it to make it work properly?

Hi tyfn, assuming that you have installed the Wincap files on your machine you should be able to navigate to your installation directory and then test your snort installation by using the
snort -W command to give you a list of the interfaces that you can capture on.
Then you can run snort with the -v switch which should show you a list of the captures at the command window in real time.. snort -v -ix, where x is the number of your interface listed from the -W (capital W) command...
have a look at the guides from http://Winsnort.com they give a run down of all the installation and testing procedures to get you up and running for the windows platform..
cheers..
