Error Connecting to DB

Can somebody help me to resolv my below error. Thank's in advence.

Database ERROR:Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (13)

I have installed a new version of Mysql server which is 4.1

Verify that MySQL is running on the machine. If so, verify username and password snort.conf against the MySQL username and password that you set at the 'mysql' prompt.
