Hi.. I have installed snort-2.0.1 with ACID, MySQL, Webmin.. after booting the IDS machine, if I start the sensor from GUI, its not getting started.. its not throwing any error message also.. after clicking the start button, it will just go on.. sometimes it works... but couldn't trace the reason for this problem.. can anyone pls help me with a solution..

If you state whether your installation is UNIX or Windows you will likely get more specific help on your issue.

Try starting snort from the command line. For example the UNIX -T option will verify the configuration and quit, giving you a list of things it doesn't like in your config file.

usr/local/bin/snort -T -i eth1 -c /usr/local/snort/etc/snort-eth1.conf

I believe there are similar command line options under Windows. Look in the logs or Windows 'Event Viewer' perhaps . . .

Hi jvhaysx.. the OS is Linux 7.3.. I installed snort-2.0.1 first, uninstalled sensor using ./etc/snort/Uninstall.sh, then installed snort-2.3.0.. might this caused the problem?
