PCRE usage

Posted by mosquitooth on October 19, 2005 00:01:38

Hi,

I was just wondering...snort uses still pcre version 4.4.1335.30352 (at least on windows)...the current one is 6.4. Is there any specific reason why snort does not update (e.g. different handling/results)? Or is it just not necessary?

Greetings,

Peter

Peter,

you have to keep pcre updated yourself. We don't update it for you.

Sorry, should have mentioned: I'm using snort on Windows (basically the binary snort 2.4.3 binary installert). This one just copies the old version on my hard disk ,that's why I wondered. Of course one could recompile snort and link it to a newer version, but would this - as far as you know- result in any error?

Greetings,

Peter
