SNORT - TCP Session Maintainence

Hi,
Can anybody help me in understanding how TCP sessions are maintained in data structures in SNORT, I mean What is the design of session maintainenance.
ALso whats the logic behind flushing of sessions in snort.

Any kind of help is thankfull.
