snort rules: backdoor?

I am using smoothwall corporate server 3.0 with Snort version 2.2.0 inside. The problem is when I enable snort rules --> backdoor, the Intrusion Detection System services will stop.

Well, did you talk to smoothwall support? I don't know anything about that setup but if you bought the software I would assume that you get some kind of support with it.

They will probably want to know what's in the error log when you contact them too.
