Txt based rules?

Posted by mwesterling on March 18, 2005 10:01:58

I downloaded snortrules-snapshot-2.1.tar.gz - and was shocked to see all of the rules files in .txt format. Is this something new?

No, it's been that way since the rules language was introduced in 1999. If you want to see for yourself you can look in the archives in the download section starting around version 0.99 or so.

Thanks. I guess I was referring to the *.rules extension that I am familiar with. Also, that tarball unzipped to the docs* directory, whereas it used to go to the rules* directory.
