run Snort

Posted by grigoreva on August 28, 2006 04:27:11

i have installed Snort 2.6.0.1 on SUSE Linux (I've used installation guide for Debian..), but from here it doesn't function ;(

Now we can start snort:
# /usr/local/bin/snort -Dq -u snort -g snort -c /etc/snort/snort.conf
So snort should initialize successfully. Look at /var/log/syslog for
a line that looks like this:
snort[1731]: Snort initialization completed successfully (pid=1731)
I have tried to find the file(start file), i suppose it must be somewhere like /etc/init.d/snort, but there isn't!!!

What can i do to check, if i installed snort right?
and how can i start it??? (what extension has snort file to run it?)

thanks a lot

A Snort Installation on Suse 10.0 guide is published in this Web site:

The site is in Spanish, but the guide is in English
