system requirement for Snort

I wanna know what is the minimum system requirement to install snort on linux 2.6.x

It all depends on how much traffic you want your snort box to be able to handle.

If you need to handle an industrial ammount of bandwidth, you will need a fast processor with a lot of ram, or else you'll drop packets like crazy.

If you are going to handle the equivalent of a DSL / Cable connection, A pentium 3 with 128 megs of ram should work fine.

I've gotten Snort to work nicely on systems running Knoppix on a P3 based machine with less than 128 megs of ram.
