I am a Linux Newbie with a problem

Posted by ed001 on May 16, 2006 18:10:40

I am following the CentOS documentation and was doing pretty good up until I got to the PCRE 5.0 install.
Again, I am new to linux but I can follow directions and those directions are pretty detailed.
While in the pcre-5.0 directory I type ./configure and get the following output:
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

Does anyone have a nice detailed guide to get the compiler and how to install it so I can continue?

I not only followed the instructions line for line I also started over from the begining to include the CentOS install with the same results.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Nevermind,
Stupid mistake.
I guess I can't really follow directions after all
The document said to install to /root/..
When it showed root I assumed it meant "/"
Still learning
Thanks anyway
Ed
