I usually DON'T respond to off-topic posts, but today I'm in a good mood.
You aren't going to like the following...
Get rid of those RPM's and install from source.
MySQL 3.X is no longer supported. Download MySQL 4 or 5 (which are current) from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/
The same goes for Snort... install it from source. Be sure to have all of the depenencies installed.
That should fix most of the problems you are encountering
Now, if you want to go one giant step further, switch away from Red Hat 9 (unsupported for at least 2 years, way outdated and slow) and use Gentoo Linux instead. The portage versions of MySQL and Snort work perfectly fine and are current.
Hope that helps a bit.
*disclaimer* I am biased against Red Hat. I dislike RPMs (which most of them are created on a 386). I use Gentoo Linux and FreeBSD. I manage many Gentoo boxen. |
