Initialization Error snort -v

Hello, I get the following error when I try to run snort 2.3 from either a user or root account. It's installed on Suse 9.2, libpcap version 0.8.3. I've made sure I'm using eth0 interface. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

snort -v
Running in packet dump mode

Initializing Network Interface eth0
ERROR: OpenPcap() device eth0 open:
socket: Address family not supported by protocol
Fatal Error, Quitting..

That looks like an error coming from libpcap. Can you build tcpdump against that libpcap set and run it without error?
