Having popup alert ?

Hi,
I'm new to snort. I've searched in docs, forums and many other without finding if it is possible to have a popup alert if someone is truying to hack me... What part of snort.conf do I must set to do that please? Sorry for my bad english! Tanks! |

What OS are you running SNORT on? If Windows, you could have SNORT send alerts to the eventlog then use a program like EventSentry to send you the alert via network message or email. Be careful of how the email is sent though, you don't want your attacker to see that. If your on *nix, I'm sure you could do something similar with Syslog. |

I have the same probelm but i do not understand how to correctly setup snort to give a popup alert on lRed Hat Linux 9. It scans all the required ports but if I break into the system it does not register the intrusion and thus also at the same time does not display an alert on the screen if you could actually be of assistance it would be appreciated |
