Make errors

I`m in the process of configuring a snort box on fedora core 3. I have eventually got to the stage of installing snort after alot of problems with mysql.
I downloaded a fresh tarball of snort, untarred it. and ran
./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql
it configures but when I com e to make it says "No targets specified and no make file found stop" can anyone help I have tried two different versions of snort with the same results

Did configure actually create Makefiles? It tells you in its output...
